In the 1960s, Salvador Dali was inspired by botanical engravings produced more than a century earlier by Pierre-Antoine Poiteau and Pierre-Jean-François Turpin , to create his legendary Flordali series, and more particularly the “Flordali - Les Fruits” series.

The original illustrations by Poiteau and Turpin, taken from the masterpiece Treatise on Fruit Trees , combine scientific rigor and artistic refinement . Dali, fascinated by their precision and symbolism, saw in them a poetic material that he transposed into his dreamlike universe.

Thus, each fruit painted by Dali finds its origin in an authentic botanical illustration from the 19th century.
