About Poiteau & Turpin
Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766–1854) was one of France’s most accomplished botanists, horticulturists, and pomologists. A passionate explorer of the plant world, he devoted much of his life to studying, cultivating, and documenting fruit trees and ornamental plants from Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond.
To illustrate his scientific work, Poiteau collaborated with Pierre Jean François Turpin (1775–1840), widely regarded as one of the greatest botanical illustrators of the nineteenth century. Turpin’s extraordinary precision and artistic talent transformed botanical observation into works of art, admired by both scientists and collectors.
Together, Poiteau and Turpin produced some of the finest botanical plates ever published. Their illustrations combine scientific accuracy with remarkable aesthetic beauty, capturing every detail of leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds with exceptional clarity.
The artworks featured in this calendar are faithfully restored reproductions of their original botanical illustrations, preserving a unique legacy that continues to inspire gardeners, naturalists, artists, and lovers of botanical art more than two centuries later.
