The American Hazelnut (Corylus americana) is an extremely rare species in Europe, imported from the Alleghenies in the early 19th century and cultivated in the nurseries of Versailles.

This bushy shrub has heart-shaped yellowish-green leaves and produces a small, triangular hazelnut with a fine and delicate taste, although little known in France.
